Helm adalah suatu alat untuk melindungi kepala pada waktu berkendara. Sudah jelas didalam peraturan berlalu lintas, memakai helm pada pengendara speda motor di jalan adalah suatu kewajiban yang telah di tetapkan, dengan sebab agar mengambil langkah berjaga-jaga dengan melindungi kepala dalam berkendara jika terjadi suatu kecelakaan yang mengakibatkan kecederaan di kepala pengendara. Dari pada penelitian observasi, pengendaras speda motor banyak tidak menggunakan helm pada malam hari. Terdapat beberapa masyarakat yang tidak menganggap pentingnya menggunakan helm saat berkendara, mereka banyak menganggap bahawa kecelakaan itu tidak akan terjadi pada mereka. Maka dengan ini, petugas lalu lintas harus sering mengamankan jalanan terutamanya pada waktu malam agar dengan tindakan seperti tilangan atau sangsi kepada pengendara speda motor yang tidak memakai helm akan merasa serik dengan perbuatan mereka. Sesuai dengan peraturan dalam UU mengenai lalu lintas wajibnya memakai helm. Bagi pengendara sepeda motor yang tidak menggunakan helm Standart Nasional Indonesia terkena pasal 291 ayat (1) jo Pasal 106 ayat (8) dengan denda Rp 250.000.[1] Helm (bahasa Belanda : Helm) adalah bentuk perlindungan tubuh yang dikenakan di kepala dan biasanya dibuat dari metal atau bahan keras lainnya.
Seperti pada gambar tersebut adalah suatu kesalahan lalu lintas, karena tidak memakai helm saat berkendara sama dengan membahayakan nyawanya sendiri. Tetapi hakikatnya adalah masih banyak masyarakat yang belum sadar akan hal tersebut, dimana pengendara sepeda motor masih banyak yang tidak memakai pelindung kepala saat berkendara yaitu tidak memakai helm, seperti yang sudah terdapat dalam isi Pasal 291 ayat (1) jo Pasal 106 ayat (8) : Pengendara sepeda motor (pengemudi dan pembonceng) yang tidak mengenakan helm Standart Nasional Indonesia didenda dengan denda maksimal Rp. 250.000. Pasal di atas telah menegaskan dan bermaksud mewajibkan pengendara dan pembonceng sepeda motor harus menggunakan helm yang berstandart nasional Indonesia.Sayangilah diri anda dan Budayakan Tertib Berlalu Lintas dan Pelopor Keselamatan Berlalu Lintas.
